Develop a strategic plan (up to 2 years) & define the priorities to develop New Products (Concept to commercial production) at organization as per the company's growth strategy
Examine the existing products designs in organization portfolio to determine scope for re-design/ Improvement and initiate changes to enhance quality, aesthetics and efficacy.
Study existing products available worldwide, take client feedback - to build unique products with better features/price points in-order to attract clients - thought process on launching future "Red Dot Design Award" products
Create a road map for new product development (timelines, vendor development, quality & aesthetic standards, manufacturability & cost) and lead the delivery efforts.
Track the performance for new products (by collecting client feedback and experience) and provide necessary literature (USP) to sales to enable value sell.
Develop testing protocols as per international norms, including necessary design and testing processes, equipment and techniques.
Work with vendors to develop new tooling, parts, material composition to develop enhanced quality unique products
Develop the open and capex budget plan for NPD in line with the targets/ growth objectives.
Identify new engineering technologies, automation, materials to enhance product manufacturing & quality and work with Plant Head to enable adoption
Plan and budget the resource requirement for NPD
Coordinate and align the efforts of different departments - Sales, Plant, Marketing, Quality, Procurement to capture requirements, share new product features and enable new product adoption
Develop alliances for NPD - for design, tool or component manufacturing and testing to enhance quality and quick + successful launch of new products.
Knowledge of materials viz. steel, alloy steels, bearings, plastic components, polyurethane etc., their properties and quality standards
Working Knowledge and current best practices in processes involved at the company, that includes CNC machining, Welding, metal stamping, product assembly etc.
Thorough knowledge of tolerances and fitments required for different functionalities
Knowledge of implementing both low cost and high cost automation at various levels in production processes to bring in efficiencies, increase production and reduce wastage
Knowledge of CAD/CAM solutions and design engineering, Solid work, including simulations, FEA analysis etc. to envision and design products and ideas on the drawing board. The company is establishing its innovation center shortly in which competent engineers are being hired.
Knowledge of current ISO/TS standards
Having a planned and methodical approach to projects with proper documentation
Person's knowledge on "how to produce" is as essential as designing new products
