Job Description: Production Engineer
Position Overview: A Production Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring efficient and effective manufacturing processes. This position involves designing, implementing, and optimizing production systems and procedures to meet quality, cost, and delivery targets. The Production Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational performance. They are responsible for troubleshooting production issues, implementing process improvements, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
Design and optimize production processes: Develop and improve manufacturing methods and procedures to optimize productivity, reduce costs, and enhance product quality. Identify opportunities for automation and implement appropriate technology solutions.
Continuous improvement: Identify process bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement. Analyze production data and metrics to drive continuous improvement initiatives. Implement Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes and eliminate waste.
Production planning and scheduling: Collaborate with the production planning team to develop accurate production schedules. Ensure smooth material flow and coordinate activities to meet production targets.
Quality assurance: Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure products meet established standards. Perform root cause analysis for quality issues and implement corrective actions. Work closely with the quality team to drive a culture of quality excellence.
Equipment and tooling: Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to ensure proper functioning of production equipment and tooling. Identify equipment needs, evaluate vendors, and participate in the selection and installation of new equipment.
Health and safety: Promote a safe working environment by identifying and mitigating potential hazards. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards. Conduct risk assessments and develop safety procedures.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including design engineering, supply chain, maintenance, and quality assurance to resolve production issues and implement process improvements. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and components.
Documentation and reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of production processes, standard operating procedures, and work instructions. Generate reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), production metrics, and process improvements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing) or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred.
- Previous experience in production engineering or a similar role within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of production processes, manufacturing techniques, and quality control methodologies.
- Proficiency in process optimization and continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
- Experience with production planning and scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, tooling, and automation systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
